New Qualifications for Assessors and Verifiers

The qualifications for Assessors, Internal and External Verifiers have been updated and replacement qualifications are now available from a variety of Awarding Organisations.
As with previous reviews of these qualifications there has been a change in not only content, but also the title (the previous review saw the A&V units replace the old style D Units). Details of the new qualifications can be found on the Ofqual register at http://register.ofqual.gov.uk by using the search qualifications function.
There are 6 new qualifications as follows:
  • Level 3 award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
  • Level 3 award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
  • Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
  • Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
  • Level 4 Award in the External Quality Assurance of Assessment of Processes and Practice
  • Certificate in Leading the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Currently qualified Assessors and Verifiers do not have to achieve the new QCF Qualifications but it is expected that they will have a understanding of, and work to, the new requirements.
GQA will expect updating from A1 to the new Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement while updating V1 will be to the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
As part of this requirement your GQA EV will discuss the GQA Compliance documents with you at a forthcoming EV Visit, requiring all Assessors and Internal Verifiers to evidence their development/update in relation to the new qualifications.
If you have any queries regarding this topic, please contact your EV.
