GQA show support for UK Masterfitter at Worldskills London 2011

October 5th saw the Final of the 2011 UK Masterfitter a skills competition that pitted some of the best Automotive Glazing Technicians against each other. GQA played a major part in the organisational and practical aspects of the competition which was held for the first time in 2010 and, for the 2nd year in succession, GQA provided the Lead Assessor for the final, Technical Officer and External Verifier Sean Hayes.

The Final was held at the Excel Centre in London during the Worldskills UK London 2011.

Sean said” The competition attracted a lot of interest from the public as well as the numerous visitors from the Automotive Glazing industry. It was great to see the Technicians showcasing their ability and it clearly showed that a great deal of skill is needed to carry out this type of work to the required standards. I would like to thank all of the Assessors, UK Masterfitter Committee members, Manon and Neil Proskills, Parisa from Worldskills UK and of course the 6 Finalists and their Employers and supporters for making the event such a success”

The Worldskills UK event involved more than 1,000 competitors from over 55 countries competing in 46 vocational skills over 4 days of intense competition.

GQA have been involved with the Automotive Glazing Industry since the early 1990s and will soon reach the landmark of awarding the 4,000 Automotive Glazing NVQ.

As the Awarding Organisation in qualifications in Glass (as well as Coatings and Print) GQA would like to congratulate the 6 finalists for providing an excellent competition in a showcase arena. The result of the competition is a closely guarded secret which will be revealed at the Award Ceremony that is part of the Proskills Awards Evening at Alton Towers in November.

Watch out for updates on the results when they are made public.
